Philanthropy: the Albert and Miriam Sklar Foundation

Albert Sklar
Albert Sklar
As well known and highly regarded as he was in the oil and gas community, Albert Sklar was equally influential in community, civic and philanthropic activities. He served as a Trustee of Centenary College and was a member of numerous boards of directors, including T. E. Schumpert Memorial Hospital, Shreveport Symphony, Shreveport Civic Opera, Volunteers of America and Odyssey House of Louisiana. Albert was also a member of the Committee of 100.

During his tenure at Schumpert, Albert was instrumental in developing the Schumpert Cancer Treatment Center and establishing the funding of the Albert Sklar Endowment for Colon-Rectal Diseases in honor of Dr. H. Whitney Boggs, Jr. He also helped obtain the Jean Despujols Collection for Centenary College through his friendship with Algur H. Meadows. Albert was a member of the B’Nai Zion, Agudath Achim Congregation, Shreveport Club, Shreveport Country Club, Petroleum Club, Independent Petroleum Association of America and the Louisiana Coalition.
